I was a young sculptor when I heard for the first time about the Cristallina-marble quarry in the remote Peccia valley. I hired a car and drove up the Maggia valley and up to Peccia. I was immediately captivated by this region and by the quarry and I was very excited when I saw the marble stones in the riverbed below the quarry. Later I often worked with this Cristallina marble. About twenty years ago when I worked on a large sculpture in the stone-works of Peccia I got to know Alex Naef and the sculpture school. Since then I have returned to Peccia many times and each time I am fascinated all over again. I am now particularly pleased that an international centre for sculpture is being created in this wonderful place where artists from all over the world will meet and exchange ideas and where they will be given opportunities to work in a studio for an agreed length of time. Good luck to this impressive project!
